When used to focus a collimated beam, the lenses should be oriented with the convex surface towards to light source to minimize spherical aberration. Combining a positive meniscus lens with another lens in a multi-element optical design will allow for a shortening of the focal length and an increase in the numerical aperture (NA) of a system without introducing significant spherical aberrations. Positive Meniscus Lenses are available with focal lengths ranging from 100 to 300mm in 25.4mm diameters sizes. allowing for easy integration into benchtop systems.
